With the rapid development of society, more and more people choose microwave ovens to heat food. It is true that microwave ovens bring a lot of convenience to our lives, but we must also pay attention to the safety and hygiene of food.
Are there any such situations you are also doing, and if so, please change them immediately:
Disposable plastic bags directly into the microwave oven to heat.
The takeaway box is directly put into the microwave for heating.
Put the plastic wrap directly into the microwave to heat.
Put plastic dishes directly into the microwave to heat.
Put plastic cups directly into the microwave to heat.
Why can’t it be heated directly into the microwave oven? Let’s take a look at the high temperature resistance of the plastic products we usually use.
The American Society of Plastics Industry (SPI) developed the marking codes for plastic types, and China developed almost the same standard in 1996. When manufacturers manufacture different plastic products, they will print “identity information” in the corresponding position, which is composed of triangular circular signs and numbers, and the numbers are from 1 to 7, corresponding to different plastic models.
PET/01
Uses: Polyethylene terephthalate, beverages, mineral water, fruit juices and flavorings are generally packaged in PET plastic bottles.
Performance: Heat-resistant to 70℃, only suitable for warm drinks or frozen drinks, it is easy to deform when containing high temperature liquids or heated, and there are substances that are harmful to the human body melted out. In addition, the use of No. 1 plastic products for too long may release the carcinogen DEHP.
Recycling suggestion: Recycle directly after drinking or use to avoid long-term reuse.
HDPE/02
Uses: High-density polyethylene, generally used for plastic containers for bathing and cleaning products.
Performance: heat resistance 90~110C, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, but it is not easy to thoroughly clean the residue.
Recycling suggestion: If the cleaning is not thorough and there are likely to be bacterial residues, it is recommended to recycle directly, and avoid using it for water-containing appliances.
PVC/03
Uses: PVC, currently mainly used for decorative materials and non-food bottles.
Performance: heat resistance 60~80℃, easy to release various toxic additives when overheated.
Recycling advice: PVC plastic bottles are not recommended for storing food or condiments. Be careful to avoid heat when recycling.
LDPE/04
Uses: Low density polyethylene, mostly used for cling film and plastic film products.
Performance: The heat resistance is not strong. When the temperature exceeds 110 ℃, the qualified PE plastic wrap will appear hot-melting phenomenon, leaving some plastic preparations that cannot be decomposed by the human body. In addition, when the food is heated by wrapping the plastic wrap, the oil in the food can easily dissolve the harmful substances in the plastic wrap. Therefore, when the food is put into the microwave oven, the wrapped plastic wrap must be removed first.
Recycling suggestion: Plastic film is generally not recommended to be reused. In addition, if the plastic wrap is seriously contaminated by food, it cannot be recycled and put into other trash cans.
